Vikings Stumble in Monroe
11/02/08
On Sunday 11/2/08 the Vikings traveled to face a tough Monroe-Woodbury 2 team in Monroe.
The two team would battle through the first quarter. Thanks to changes of field position Monroe would take advantage first with a scoring drive that ended with a 3 yard touchdown.
The Vikings would fight back and move the ball downfield. Thanks to good offensive line blocking and runs by Jalen Young, Nasheim Hiland and D’Wayne White, the Vikings would end the drive in the end-zone. But a holding call on the run called the touchdown back.
Monroe would add a second score in the second quarter to take a 12-0 lead into the half. In the third quarter Viking drives were stopped by turnovers, which gave Monroe excellent field position. The Crusaders would take advantage and score once again. The Vikings kept playing hard and moving the football until Jalen Young broke away for a 70 yard touchdown late in the fourth period to pull within 18-6, but it was not enough for a comeback.
Other Vikings who played well were Keion Jones, Jihad Clarke, Donte Williams, Drew Tommarello, Ryan Love, Jordan Forrest, Daron Long, Jarod Baron, Jake Tommarello, Tairus White-Edney, Jaylin McGhee, Brandon Pennie, Khairi Manns, Makai Johnson, Stuart Wallace, Zachary Lyttle, Aidan Lilly, Najee Bass, Jordan Lewis, Luke Clifford, Jarrett Haines, Tijier Moreno, and Benjamin Peters.
The Vikings season comes to an end this Sunday against North Rockland 1 at Fosina field.
