Vikings Bounce back with 25-14 Victory

The Vikings faced New City in an emotional game dedicated to the memory of Author “Chico” Flowers Sr., former coach of the Chiefs and T-bolts, and father of current Viking Head Coach Chico Flowers Jr.

The Vikings opened the game on a mission as The newly named thunder and lightning running team of Nashiem Hiland (thunder) and Jalen Young (lightning) helped the Vikings move downfield with power running. Young would end the drive with a 13 yard run off of left tackle to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead.

The Viking defense would hold the New City offense thanks to D’wayne White, Jordan Forrest, Zachary Lyttle, Najee Bass, and Jarrett Haines, and give the offense back the ball.

In the second quarter D’wayne White would move his offense downfield and Young and Hiland would strike again thanks to blocking by Nathan Harrison, Aidan Lilly, and Luke Clifford to move the ball to the 20 yard line. From there Jordan Lewis sprinted to the corner of the end zone for a touchdown. Donte Williams added the extra point run to extend the Viking lead to 13-0.

The Viking defense dominated the first half and once again gave the offense the ball with good field position. Quarterback Jordan Lewis then completed two consecutive passes to Jarod Baron, the second one being a 7 yard touchdown to give the Vikings an 18-0 halftime lead.

In the second half the Vikings began substituting heavily. New City took advantage and quickly drove downfield for a score and extra point to close the score to18-7. The Vikings offense then put together a long drive that took up the remainder of the third quarter until Zachary Lyttle would score and increase the Viking lead to 25-7.

However on the next offensive possession New City would answer with a 50-yard touchdown run and reduce the Viking lead to 25-14.

New City would get the ball back and attempt to move in to close the score even more but defense by Zachary Lyttle, Jarrett Haines, Jordan Lewis, and Jalen Young would stop them. Young then ended any New city comeback hopes with a sixty-yard blast to the New City 25-yard line. The Vikings did not score on the drive but their defense held New City in that end of the field for the remainder of the game.

Other Vikings who played well were Donte Williams, Daron Long, Tairus White-Edney, Jaylin McGhee, Drew Tommarello, Joel Cooper, Jake Tommarello, and Brandon Pennie.
