Vikings Comeback But Fall Short to North Rockland 18-13

On Sunday 10/12/08 The Vikings played the second Mitey-mite team from North Rockland and suffered their first setback of the season. On Sunday 10/12/08 The Vikings played the second Mitey-mite team from North Rockland and suffered their first setback of the season.

The Vikings received the ball first and the offense started strong. Jalen Young, Nasheim Hiland and Jordan Forrest helped the Vikings run the ball downfield. The drive was hi-lighted by D’wayne White throwing a nice pass to Jalen Young who was tackled on the nine yard line. Young ended the opening drive with a 10 yard burst off of left tackle for a touchdown and 6-0 lead.

The Red Raiders mounted their own drive and moved the ball against the Viking defense despite the good play of Ryan Love, Keion Jones, Khairi Manns and Zachary Lyttle. North Rockland would score on the drive with a 15 yard pass reception and tie the score at 6-6. Viking Jalen Young made a solo tackle to stop the extra point attempt.

The teams then exchanged possessions for the remainder of the first quarter and second quarter until, just before the half, Viking Jordan Lewis intercepted a North Rockland pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown down the right sideline. But the referees called the play dead, explaining he had stepped out of bounds on his run. The two teams went to halftime tied at 6-6.

In the second half North Rockland came out and drove the field and ended it with a twenty-yard touchdown run to take a 12-6 lead against the Vikings. The Viking offense drove the ball again but turned the ball over on downs to North Rockland. The Red Raiders were able to get in scoring position on offense and they their quarterback threw a 33 yard touchdown to increase the lead to 18-6.

Late in the fourth quarter, Jalen Young helped get the Vikings back in the game with a nifty 67 yard touchdown run. Jordan Lewis then added the extra point run to close the score to 18-13. With momentum on their side, the Vikings defense, lead by Nathan Harrison, Makai Johnson and Aidan Lilly, forced a fourth down play by North Rockland with less than three minutes left in the game. On fourth down and four yards to get a first down, the Viking defense fought on the play but the Red Raiders were able to convert.

The Vikings then used their timeouts in hopes of stopping the clock and getting the ball back, but North Rockland was able to run out the clock.

Other Vikings who played well were Donte Williams, Jarod Baron, Jarrett Haines, Tairus White-Edney, Jaylin McGhee, Jake Tomarello, Joel Cooper, Drew Tomarello, Brandon Pennie, Najee Bass, and Daron Long.
