Vikings Explode vs Monroe-Woodbury
10/11/09
The Mitey-Mite Vikings traveled to Monroe Woodbury to face the Crusaders on Sunday.
It was the second of three NRYTL games versus the Monroe-Woodbury program on the day, as the Vikings came ready to play seemingly right off the bus.
The Vikings started fast when Jarod Baron exploded off of right tackle on the first play of the game for a sixty yard touchdown to give the Vikings a quick lead, 6-0. The two teams exchanged possessions and the Vikings quickly moved down field on their second offensive possession of the game. A Viking fumble on the Monroe twelve yard line would halt the drive, but the Vikings defense would have Monroe-Woodbury pinned deep in their territory.
The defense of Drew Tommarello, Jake Tommarello, Jaylin McGhee, Aidan Lilly, Jarrett Haines, and Jordan Lewis would hold the Monroe offense and give the ball back to the Vikings offense inside of the forty. Jarod Baron then ran for his second touchdown of the game from thirty-five yards away, giving the Vikings a 12-0 lead.
Late in the second quarter, another Viking defensive stand, lead by Richard King-Dixon, Tijier Moreno, and Javon Walker lead to a fumble recovery inside of the Monroe thirty-five yard line. The Viking offense then moved the ball to the ten yard line thanks to runs by Baron, Lewis and Jake Tommarello. However, time ran out and the Vikings went into halftime leading 12-0.
The Vikings started the game fast on offense with Baron’s run. The defense came out just as fast in the second half, when on the first play from scrimmage Jarrett Haines took the ball away from the Monroe runner and sprinted sixty yards to the end-zone. A Jordan Forrest extra point kick increased the Viking lead to 20-0.
The two teams played out the remainder of the game with the only question being if the Vikings could hold the shutout. After a Monroe pass, catch and run to the Viking ten yard line. The defensive play of Aiden Lilly, Jaylin McGhee, Jarod Baron, Jordan Forrest and Drew Tommarello held the Monroe offense and closed out the scoring for the game.
Vikings who also played well included Cervantes Wilson, Christopher White, Michael reedy, Daron Long, Omari Walker, Jonathan Richards, Corey Baron, Mekhi Benjamin, Kenneth Collins, Mahaj Everett, Perron Gregory, Richard Reiman, Rahim Rooney, and Gabriel Ford.
