Vikings Fight back anD Tie Eastchester
10/05/08
In a battle for bragging rights, the Mitey-mite Vikings faced the Eastchester Blue Devils on Sunday 10/5/08 in Eastchester.
Eastchester came out and surprised the Vikings by running for a touchdown on second play of game from 55 yards. The Blue Devils converted the extra point to take a 7-0 lead less than two-minutes into the game.
The Viking offense responded by putting together a solid drive. Jalen Young followed, behind the blocks of Najee Bass and Zachary Lyttle and strong runs by Nasheim Hiland and Dwayne White helped the drive. Jalen Young sealed the drive with a 9 yard touchdown run off of left tackle. The Viking extra point run was stopped and Eastchester held a 7-6 lead.
The Eastchester offense regrouped and drove the field with short runs. At the Viking four yard line Eastchester ran the ball in for a touchdown. However, a penalty on the play against Eastchester canceled the touchdown. The Viking defense took advantage and applied pressure and stops on the next three downs. On fourth down Khairi Manns and Tairus Edney-White sacked the Eastchester quarterback. The two went into the half with Eastchester leading 7-6.
In the third quarter the Viking defense began to take control lead by Zachary Lyttle, Jarrett Hines, Aidan Lilly and Ryan Love. After the Viking defense pushed Eastchester back, a crucial pass interference on third and twelve gave Eastchester a first down. On the very next play a Eastchester running back ran 50 yard for a touchdown to give the Blue Devils a 13-6 lead.
The Viking offense responded with a drive that featured Jordan Lewis and Jalen Young, which feature a streaking pass to young from Lewis. Young ended the drive with his second touchdown on a one yard dive. Lewis added the extra point run that tied the game 13-13.
With under two minutes left in the game, Eastchester began its last offensive drive. Two long runs against the Vikings defense put the ball inside of the Viking 25. At this point Eastchester would use its remaining timeouts.
