Vikings Battle But fall To North Rockland
9/20/09
The Mitey-Mite Vikings returned to Fosina field after strong performances the previous two weeks. They played well again this week but came up short against the Red Raiders.
North Rockland began the game on offense and moved down field with short runs. After gaining roughly forty yards on the ground, the Red Raiders scored. Despite tight coverage by the Viking secondary, the Red Raider quarterback threw a pass to the right corner of the end-zone for a 15 yard touchdown to go ahead. North Rockland would add an extra point kick to extend their lead.
The Vikings responded on their next offensive possession with the help of Michael Reedy, Jordan Forrest, Jarrett Haines, Jihad Clarke, and Jarod Baron. Jaylin Mcghee would close the game score by two points with a straight line sprint up the middle for a 60 yard touchdown run. The Vikings went into halftime down by two points.
In the third quarter, the defensive play of Lilly Aidan, Jake Tommarello, Drew Tommarello, and Jordan Lewis kept the Red Raiders out of the end-zone. The two teams exchanged field position for the remainder of the third quarter.
Late in the fourth quarter the Red Raiders were looking to seal the game with a long drive that put the ball inside of the Vikings 20 yard line. A Jarrett Haines sack and Drew Tommarello pass deflection stopped the Red Raider drive inside of the Viking 10 yard line.
The Vikings were now inside their own 10 yard line, with time running out. After a few running plays, a Viking pass attempt was intercepted by the Red Raiders on the Viking 15 yard line. With great field position, the Red Raiders added another touchdown in the final minute to close the scoring for the game.
Vikings who played well included Daron Long, Richard Reiman, Rahim Rooney, Jonathan Richards, Perron Gregory, Corey Baron, Gabriel Ford, Michael Coughlin, Omari Walker, Billy Hollis-Ragin, Mahaj Everett, and Kenneth Collins.
