Vikings Win Big in Home Opener
9/14/08
The Vikings opened their home season this past weekend with another impressive victory. This time the opponenet was the Valley Cottage Indians.
The Vikings took the field first and tough runs by Jalen Young, Jordan Lewis and Nasheim Hiland helped the Broncos get into scoring position. Jalen Young finished off the opening drive with a sprint around end to give the Vikings the lead (the extra point failed).
Good defense by Jarett Haines, Daron Long, Jarod Baron, and Khairi Manns helped the Vikings hold the Indians scoreless in the first half.
In the second quarter the Viking offense moved the ball downfield until Viking running back Jordan Forrest sprinted around left end for the first touchdown of his career. Jordan Lewis added the extra point power run to increase the Viking lead by thirteen points.
Valley Cottage came out after halftime with a strong running game that moved the ball downfield. they eventually scored a touchdown to pull within one touchdown of the Vikings. Viking Jalen Young then ended the Indian threat on the next offensive series, when he sprinted around right end for a 50 yard touchdown. After the teams exchanged possessions, in the fourth quarter, Viking Nashiem Hiland extended the Viking lead in the fourth quarter with another sprint to the end-zone. Valley Cottage was able to score in the last minutes of the game for the final scoring.
