Vikings Win Big In Opener 9/7/08
The 2008 version of the Vikings showed in the first two series that this is not the same team that struggled the past few seasons. Playing North Rockland on Sunday the Vikings came away with a decisive victory.
North Rockland began on offense and were driving the ball until Viking Dwayne White stripped the ballcarrier of the ball for a Viking recovery. Now on offense, quarterback White then pitched the ball to Jalen Young who promptly ran around right end for a 45 yard touchdown.
North Rockland responded with a long drive of their own but turned the ball over on downs at the 15 yard line. The Viking defense stood tall all day lead by Makai Johnson, Stuart Wallace, Zachary Lytlle, Aidan Lilly, and Najee Bass. Once again on offense quarterback Jordan Lewis then added to the Viking scoring with an option run around left end for a 50 yard touchdown that extended teh Viking lead into halftime.
In the fourth quarter Jalen Young added to the Viking lead with a 40 yard blast off of left tackle. North Rockland responded when one of their running backs broke free for a long touchdown to give North Rockland hope of a comeback. Jalen Young ended the North Rockland threat when, on the frist offensive series, he followed his blockers 60 yards to the end-zone for the Viking final score and twenty point victory.
Other Vikings who played well were Keion Jones, Jihad Clarke, Donte Williams, Luke Clifford, Jarrett Haines, Tijier Moreno, Stuart Wallace, Benjamin Peters, and Ryan Love.
