Vikings Run Away From New City
On Sunday 9/6/09, the New Rochelle Vikings opened their 2009 season with a strong performance against the New City Rams. The Viking offense opened the game and Coach Chico Flowers team marched downfield behind the running of Jarod Baron.
Running back Jaylin Mcghee then exploded up the middle for a long run to the New City 5 yard line. The Vikings were unable to capitalize on the drive when the New City defense stiffened, causing a fumble.
In the second quarter Mcghee broke free for another long run to the New City 30 yard line. Drew Tommarello then took over with two runs that positioned the ball on the three yard line. Jordan Lewis capped the drive with an end run for the touchdown.
The two teams then fought for field position into the second half. Kenneth Collins, Jordan Forrest, Aidan Lilly, Richard Dixon-King, Jarrett Haines, and Perron Gregory played good defense, stopping the New City attack.
The Vikings extended their lead in the fourth quarter when Jarod Baron exploded off tackle for a long touchdown run behind the blocking of Cervantes Wilson, and Mekhi Benjamin. Jordan Lewis added the extra point run. After stopping the New City attack once again, the Viking offense added another touchdown by Jordan Lewis. The drive was high-lighted by a 40 yard run by Jarett Haines.
New City attempted a comeback with a long touchdown drive of their own but runs by Haines and Lewis closed out the Viking victory.
Other Vikings who played well included Corey Baron, Jihad Clarke, Joel Cooper, Javon Walker, Christopher White jr., Rahim Rooney, Tijier Moreno, Gabriel Ford, Omari Walker, Jake Tommarello, and Richard Reiman.
