T-Bolt's Battle Mount vernon, Win 12-0
11/18/07
On Sunday the T-Bolts and the Mount Vernon Razorbacks renewed an old WCPWFL rivalry that lived up to expectations. This was a game without a lot of scoring but alot of action. In a close defensive 'bend but don't break' battle the T-Bolts came away with a 12-0 victory.
The game started fast after the Mount Vernon kickoff. On the first play of the game, T-Bolt Donovan Powell(9) took the handoff and sprinted 58 yards through the secondary for a 6-0 T-Bolt lead. The Razorbacks then marched downfield but were held on fourth down deep in T-Bolt territory. Mount Vernon then intercepted a pass by the T-Bolts that put the ball on the T-bolt 25 yard line. Malik Smith(34), Corey Holder(27) and Rakim Parker(71) were able to stop Mount Vernon's drive on the ten yard line.
The T-Bolst then mounted a field drive featuring a Malik Smith(34) 45 yard run. Eventually the T-Bolts offense was on the Razorback 13 yard line, but a 4th down pass from quarterback Joe Clarke(6) to Justin Cox(40) fell incomplete. Mount Vernon then came back and drove the field with less than two minutes left in the half. Cornerback Donovan Powell(9) broke up a pass in the endzone, then Corey Holder(27) sacked the Mount Vernon quarterback to end the threat as the halftime whistle was blown.
In the second half Mount Vernon came out and again drove the field. A long Mount Vernon run that was seemingly a touchdown was stopped at the one yard line when Donovan Powell(9) went low and Malik Smith(34) went high to cause the runner to fumble into the endzone, and give the T-Bolts the ball as a touchback.
Later in the third quarter Mount Vernon mounted an offensive attack that had them at1st and ten at the T-bolt ten yard line. A Razorback penalty and a Rakim Parker(71) stop on fourth and two ended this threat for the T-Bolts.
With four minutes left in the game, and the T-Bolts defending a 6-0 lead, the Razorbacks mounted their last serious threat. Going 50 yards on the ground they moved the ball to the T-bolt 25 yard line. However, a Donovan Powell(9) interception on the fifteen yard line ended the drive.
The T-Bolts offense then came to life and put the game away. A Joe Clarke(6) to Justin Cox(40) screen pass resulted in Cox running 68 yards into the endzone for the deciding score.
For the 2007 season, game articles, photos and possible video will be posted mid-week following Sunday's games. Stay tuned.
