T-Bolt's Hold Off Ramapo 21-19
11/4/07
On Sunday the T-Bolts faced Spring Valley/Ramapo in a rematch of a game played earlier this year. In that game Spring Valley/Ramapo returned the opening kickoff for a quick 6-0 lead. In the game on Sunday, the T-Bolts kicked off to Spring Valley/Ramapo and the opening kickoff resulted in the same results, a touchdown.
Down 7-0, the T-Bolts responded with a drive that featured a 55 yard catch and run by John Tomarello(10) from quarterback Joe Clarke(6). Clarke then ran in from 5 yards away to close the score to 6-7. On the ensuing drive, Ramapo and their main runner then responded with a 60 yard blast of their own to increase the lead to 13-6 over the T-Bolts.
In the second quarter, a T-bolt punt on an offensive series was muffed by Ramapo, giving the T-Bolts the ball on the 40 yard line. Malik Smith(34) then blasted for 35 yards around end. Clarke(6) then passed to Donovan Powell(9) for a 5 yard touchdown to close the score to 12-13.
When they received the ball, Ramapo attempted to score by passing, but a Justin Cox(40) sack and Ramapo penalty pushed Ramapo back to the 2 yard line. Malik Smith(34) and Cox(40) then combined to tackle the Ramapo runner in the end-zone for a safety and the T-Bolts took a 14-13 lead into the half.
The third quarter saw CJ Anthony(32) carry the T-Bolt offense with strong runs. Clarke(6) threw a 30 yard pass to Powell that put the T-Bolt offense on the 5 yard line. Gavin Harley(24) sealed the drive with a blast off-tackle for a touchdown.
On the attempted extra point kick, the snap was high and holder Donovan Powell(9) lateraled the ball back to kicker Joe Clarke(6), who then re-lateraled the ball back to Powell(9), who then ran backwards as the Ramapo defense closed in on his zig-zag run. Powell then heaved a 35 yard bomb to a wide open Jihad Brogdon(3) for a wild extra point conversion and 21-13 lead.
In the fourth quarter Spring Valley/Ramapo made the game interesting again when their main runner broke free again for a 45 yard touchdown to close the score to 21-19. The T-Bolt defense stiffened and stopped the extra point conversion. After a T-Bolt drive ended with a fumble Ramapo attempted a last second drive but the T-Bolt defense stopped them on four downs to close the game.
For the 2007 season, game articles, photos and possible video will be posted mid-week following Sunday's games. Stay tuned.
