T-bolts edge North Rockland in a Pee Wee Classic
11/01/09
Strategy! Application! Execution!
Were the supportive words from Ebanks dad as he and the other parents cheered for the Thunderbolts as they went head to head in a battle against rival North Rockland.
The Red Raiders came out on offense with their ground attack as they pounded the ball inside with their running back but the New Rochelle defensive play of Kobe Gathers, Bryce Davis, Vaughn Howard and Myson Robinson ultimately lead to a turnover on downs. New Rochelle came out strong on offense opening up with a 30 yard pass from Danny Pistolesi connecting with Antoine Lewis making the statement that they were here to play. Now at the North Rockland 20 yard line, the T-bolts tried their best to push in for a score but were stopped by the Red Raiders, ending the first quarter 0-0.
At the start of the second quarter North Rockland started with the ball but couldn’t get anything going as Marquez Jackson-Allen was meeting running backs in the hole and filling the open gaps. With each coaching staff making adjustments, the Red Raider scored first with less than four minutes until halftime. The Red Raider quarterback dropped back to pass and threw a touchdown to his receiver to give North Rockland a 6-0 lead (failed PAT).
With only a few minutes left in the first half, T-bolt Danny Pistolesi passing and Greg Powell runs took the game into their hands. Pistolesi looked strong in the pocket as he hit Rashan Gilmore on third down for a 17 yard gain. Gilmore cleverly stepped out of bounds stopping the clock with about a minute left until halftime. With the ball on North Rockland’s 18 yard line, Pistolesi rolled out of the pocket away from the pass rush, and completed the pass to Antoine Lewis for New Rochelle's first touchdown. The teams were tied 6-6 going into halftime.
The two teams played evenly in the third quarter and into late into the fourth. In the Fourth quarter the Red Raider offense moved the ball into T-bolt territory. The T-bolt defense then put up a big stop, giving their offense the ball back with three minutes left in the game.
Quarterback Pistolesi then connected with Dean Tommarello for a long gain to help move into Red Raider territory. Pistolesi went back to receiver Antoine Lewis again to put the ball inside of the 25 yard line. Going back to what was working for them New Rochelle's Pistolesi dropped back and hit Lewis for another score as Lewis safely secured the ball in his hands for six points giving the T-bolts a 12-6 lead.
The Red Raiders challenged the T-bolts by returning the ensuing kick off 30 yards into T-bolt territory. Their first down pass fell incomplete, and the second down pass was tipped by the T-bolt defensive pass rush. On third down, The T-bolts defense sacked the North Rockland quarterback. Jordan Davis then intercepted and returned the Red Raider desperation pass to the Red Raider 25 yard line to seal the T-bolt 12-6 victory.
