Ravens Fly Past Suffern

10/18/09

The Ravens returned to Fosina field in the rain on 10/18/09 to face a tough Suffern opponent and grind out another win.

The first quarter was a defensive battle between the two teams. Ravens Hezikiah Brown, Corey Thomas, Xavier Thomas, JohnRyan Freeman, and Hassan Mabrouk lead the way for the Ravens. The Raven offense then came alive with Romeo Holden and Jamal Dallas runs that moved the ball inside of the Suffern twenty yard line.

After a Raven offensive fumble, the defense returned the ball back to the offense in good field position. Holden then ran around right end for a thirty yard touchdown run. Jamal Dallas added the extra point run to put the Ravens ahead 7-0.

In the third quarter the defensive play of Keiran Moran, Shawn Gilchrist and Kobe Simpson gave the Raven offense the ball at the Suffern thirty yard line. A Romeo Holden across field touchdown run was called back due to penalty. Three Hezikiah Brown runs helped the Ravens get back into scoring position. Brown then threw the key block to spring Jamal Dallas into the end-zone, putting the Ravens ahead 13-0. The 13-0 score would stand going into halftime.

The teams battled for field position throughout the third quarter. Late in the fourth quarter, Suffern attempted to comeback against the Ravens. A Suffern 55 yard touchdown run was called back due to penalty, but the penalty was during the run and the ball was put at the spot of the foul, which was the Raven 20 yard line. The Suffern offense would go in to score the touchdown to close the score at 13-6. Raven defender Ethan Ortiz then stopped the extra point attempt.

With time running out, the Raven offense controlled the ball and ran out the clock, not allowing the Suffern offense another opportunity to score to take home a 13-6 victory.
