RAVENS ComebacK And Win In last Minutes 13-7

After practicing, preparing and competing to get better since August 1st, the Ravens came together and won the first game in their history on Sunday 10/12/08 against North Rockland.

The Ravens started fast on offense, hi-lighted by an end around sprint by quarterback Romeo Holden. The Ravens offense would continue on the drive and eventually score a touchdown and take a 6-0 lead. The two teams traded field position throughout the first quarter. Cobe Toure, Jamal Dallas, Shawn Gilcrest, and Kobe Simpson stood out on offense while Curtis Fry-Harlan and, Romeo Holden helped the defense hold North Rockland.

Late in the second quarter, the North Rockland offense began to move the ball downfield against the Ravens and they eventually scored. The extra point run put the Red Raiders ahead 7-6 at halftime.

The Ravens came out inspired in the second half. Johnryan Freeman lead the way on defense when he tackled a North Rockland ball-carrier and recovered the fumble on the Red Raider 45 yard line. Runs by Myles Taylor and Christian Ancrum along with a pass from Romeo Holden to Myles Taylor put the ball on the Red Raider 10 yard line. But the Ravens were unable to score on four plays and turned over possession of the ball to North Rockland as the fourth quarter began.

Although the Ravens didn’t score they still had the Red Raiders pinned deep in their own territory and it helped when the Raven defense caused and recovered a fumble on the thirty yard line. A penalty against North Rockland and runs by Myles Taylor and Peyton Bean setup a Romeo Holden sweep left for a Raven touchdown. The extra point run by Myles Taylor put the Ravens ahead 13-7 with four minutes left in the game.

With time remaining on the clock, North Rockland started their drive. Two Red Raider long runs put their offense on the Raven 35 yard line. Defensive plays by Ravens , Peyton Bean, Hassan Mabrouk, Johnryan Freeman, and Corey Thomas slowed down the Red Raider march.

The North Rockland offense was still able to make it to the Raven 15 yard line. Once inside of the Raven 15 yard line, and with time running out, North Rockland began using its timeouts to preserve time. But after consecutive incomplete pass plays, and with no timeouts left to stop the clock, the Red Raider drive ended, the game ended, and the Ravens and the home crowd went wild.

Congratulations to all of the Ravens and Raven coaches on your first victory!
