Ravens Power past Monroe-Woodbury

10/11/09

Monroe-Woodbury would jump out ahead of the Ravens when their runner ran up-field before being caught at the five yard line. The Crusaders would score on the drive and kick the extra point to take an 8-0 lead.

The Ravens responded to the challenge on the next series when quarterback Romeo Holden dropped back and threw to a streaking Jaishon Spady for a sixty yard touchdown pass. The Romeo Holden extra point run would close the Monroe lead to 8-7.

Romeo Holden came back with his own touchdown on a forty yard run after the Raven defense held the Monroe-Woodbury attack. The touchdown allowed the Ravens to take a lead they would not give up, 13-8. The defensive play of Hezikiah Brown, Hassan Mabrouk, Curtis Fry-Harlan, Xavier Thomas, JohnRyan Freeman, Corey Thomas, and Mykai Joyner helped the Raven defense recover a Monroe fumble on the Monroe forty yard line.

Raymond Dixon then ran twenty-five yards for a first down. Runs by Lonnie Jones, Chance Kelly and a penalty produced a fourth and twenty yards for the Ravens offense. Undaunted, quarterback Romeo Holden passed to Hassan Mabrouk for his second 60 yard touchdown pass of the game, and a 19-8 Raven lead at halftime.

In the second half the running of Shawn Gilcrest and Jamal Dallas behind the blocking of Spady, Thomas, and Steffen Fernand moved the ball inside of the Monroe-Woodbury twenty-five yard line. The Raven offense would fumble on the drive, but the defense held Monroe on downs and got the ball back. Romeo Holden then sprinted twenty yards to the five yard line, runs by Kieran Moran and Lamar Hill put the ball closer to the goal line before Romeo Holden ran around right end for the final Raven touchdown, to close the scoring at 25-8.

Other Ravens who played well included Lance Anthony, Caesar Torres, Joshua Gamby, Kobe Simpson, Shawn Harris, Joseph Romeo, Dayvaughn Jackson, Ethan Ortiz, Storm Jones-Alleyne, and Jovell Major.
