Ravens Lose First Against North Rockland

10/4/09

The Ravens faced a tough North Rockland team on Sunday 10/4 and despite being the most exciting game of the day, the Ravens lost for the first time this season.

North Rockland opened the series with a drive into Raven territory. The Raven defense stepped up and stopped the drive thanks to Corey Thomas, and JohnRyan Freeman. The North Rockland drive ended with Hassan Mabrouk recovering a Red Raider fumble. On the Raven offensive series the key play was a fourth down and twelve yards to go conversion run by Romeo Holden. Jamal Dallas then took over with a 48 yard sprint into the end-zone for the Ravens opening score.

The two teams battled for field position for the rest of the half. With less than one minutes in the half, Romeo Holden helped put the Ravens in scoring position with a run inside of the North Rockland forty yard line. Jaishon Spady then sprinted to the 10 yard line. However, the run was called back due to a penalty against the Ravens and the two teams went into halftime with the Ravens leading by a touchdown.

In the second half North Rockland moved the ball inside of the Ravens twenty yard line, Good defense by Hassan Mabrouk and Jamal Dallas stopped the drive, but the Ravens were deep in their own territory. On the change of possession, North Rockland received the ball back in good scoring position. Their offense would score and also kick the extra point, putting North Rockland ahead by two points.

Despite the good defensive play of Romeo Holden, Xavier Thomas, Corey Thomas, and Shawn Gilchrist, North Rockland would get the ball back once again and score late in the fourth quarter. After the extra point kick, the Ravens were behind by 10 points. The Ravens comeback attempt was unsuccessful and the final scoring stood with North Rockland ahead.

Ravens that also played well included Shawn Harris, Raymond Dixon, Curtis Fry-Harlan, Hezikiah Brown, Lamar Hill jr., Caesar Torres, Kobe Simpson, Storm Jones-Alleyne, DayVaughn Jackson, Joshua Gamby, Steffen Fernand, Raymond Dixon, and Lonnie Jones.
