Ravens Hold Off New City 9/6/09

The Mitey-Mite Ravens opened their 2009 NRYTL season with an impressive victory against a strong New City team.

The Ravens began the game on the defensive. New City showed that they came to play, driving the ball to the Raven 30 yard line. However, the Raven defense, led by Hezikiah Brown, Mykai Joyner, Lance Anthony, and Kobe Simpson held the Rams.

The Raven offense then moved the ball downfield until Romeo Holden followed Jamal Dallas around end for a 35 yard touchdown. The teams traded field position in the second quarter until Holden again sprinted for a 22 yard touchdown before halftime.

In the second half, New City responded with a score when their running back ran for a 71 yard touchdown. The Ravens then put together their own drive behind the running of Jamal Dallas. Romeo Holden ended the drive with a 15 yard run into the end-zone.

New City again closed the score to one touchdown deficit when their ball-carrier sprinted 53 yards for a touchdown with four minutes left in the game.  After turning the ball over to New City on downs, the Raven defense then stepped up with stops by Corey Thomas and Johnryan Freeman to seal the victory.

Other Ravens who played well included Caesar Torres, Jaishon Spady, Lamar Hill jr., Shawn Gilchrist, Joshua Gamby, Raymond Dixon, Lance Anthony, Jovell Major, Ethan Ortiz, and Xavier Thomas.
