11/12/11
The Purple Wave hosted four first round games of the Empire State Classic Championship series at Fosina Field as eight teams sought advancement in the playoffs. In the opener, New Rochelle's Purple Wave Pee Wee team suffered a 22-0 loss to the Chile Lions of Rochester New York.
Lion Xavier Brown's opening kickoff return quickly positioned the ball inside of Purple Wave territory. On the fourth play of the drive, Brown scampered 11 yards into the end-zone. In the second quarter, quarterback Myles Taylor and Ahmad Galimore connected on a 30 yard gain. John Ryan Freeman converetd a key fourth down run inside of the Chile twenty yard line. Chile's defense stiffened and the Purple Wave came away scoreless.
The Purple Wave defense also stiffened as Nasheim Hiland, Romeo Holden, Khairi Manns and Aiden Lilly made defensive stops. On third and nine, Lion Tyron Hollinger Jr. broke a tackle and sprinted down the left sideline for a 56 yard touchdown that increased the Chile lead to 14-0.
Late in the fourth quarter, Lion Hollinger returned a punt inside of the Purple Wave thirty yard line before being tackled by New Rochelle's Myles Taylor. The Chile offense then ended the drive with the second touchdown by Xavier Brown.
