LIONS & Spring Valley/Ramapo Tie 0-0 9/16/07
The Jr. Pee Wee Lions hosted Spring Valley/Ramapo this past Sunday and came away with a tie. For the third successive week the Lions posted a shutout, but for the second week they failed to capitalize on opportunities to score.
The Lions opened on offense and they were unable to move the ball. SpringValley/Ramapo fought there way to the Lion 15 yard line before the defense stiffened and with multiple sacks by Devonte Banner(24) and Bryce Davis(43). The remainder of the half saw the Lions playing on the defensive side of their fifty yard line. The backfield of Demarcus Miller (27), Danny Pistolesi(12) and Bryson Hayes(21) were held in check by the Spring Valley/Ramapo defense this week, while quarterback Tyler Fernandez threw well, but the Lion receivers were unable to hold onto his passes. In order for a overtime to occur in Pop Warner, both teams must agree on it. Spring Valley/Ramapo chose not to take this game into overtime.
The defense was led by the outstanding efforts of Jonathan Yudell(57) who made multiple stops behind the line of scrimmage, Tyler Fernandez (interception), Charlie Verni(58), Akel Walker(43) and Bryson Hayes at cornerback. The Lions will look to rebound this week against a tough Valley Cottage team that ended their 2-0 start in 2006 20-6.
