Lions Rebound 18-0 vs New City
11/09/08
The Lions traveled to New City on 11/09/08 to face the Rams for the second time this year. The Lions and Rams met in the first round of this seasons playoffs.
This game and the earlier game had one thing in common. Lion Dean Tommarello. Tommarello would put the Lions on the scoreboard first late in the first quarter. On defense, he intercepted a Ram pass attempt and returned it to the Ram 47 yard line. Then on offense he would follow fullback Marquez Jackson Allen behind Bryce Davis and Sincere Savoy on a 40 yard touchdown run to give the Lions a 6-0 lead.
The Rams would get good field position when a Jordan Davis punt attempt sailed over his head and was downed inside of the Lion twenty yard line. The Lion defense of Myson Robinson, Kobe Gathers, Miles Walker, Rashan Gilmore and Mike Davis would keep the Rams out of the end-zone.
On offense, quarterback Danny Pistolesi called on running back Deane Tommarello in the second quarter and just as in the first game against New City, Tommarello exploded for a field weaving 65 yard touchdown scamper to give the Lions a 12-0 halftime lead.
Looking to comeback in the fourth quarter, the New City offense would mount a time consuming drive against the Lions that moved the Rams inside of the Lion 15 yard line. Defensive plays by Bryce Davis and Marquez Jackson-Allen would hold the Ram offense and give the ball back to the Lions.
After two runs and facing a third and long, quarterback Danny Pistolesi passed to Jordan Davis in the flat. Jordan would make a move on a Ram defender and race 85 yards into the endzone for the final touchdown.
