Lions Downed 6-0 In Eastchester
11/02/08
It was another tough battle between traditional rival Eastchester and the Lions on Sunday 11/2/08. In these games the team that makes the fewest mistakes usually has the advantage.
The Lions came out determined and recovered the kickoff that bounced off of the Eastchester returner. Quarterback Danny Pistolesi then passed to Jordan Davis for a 25 yard completion. Runs by Marquez-Jackson-Allen, Davis and Dean Tommarello would put the ball inside of the Eastchester 5 yard line. Davis then burst off of the right side blocks by Kobe Gathers, Bryson Welch and Myles Harvey, but was tackled at the one yard line and fumbled the football.
Eastchester then drove out of their end-zone before being forced to punt. The Lion offense then hurt itself with a penalty, but a Pistolesi to Davis long pass on fourth down was seemingly caught by Davis before being ‘bobbled’ away incomplete at the Eastchester 15 yard line when he hit the ground.
Eastchester then drove 55 yards against the Lion defense thanks to a 35 yard run. They would score on a 3 yard pass to take a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The two teams played each other evenly through the second quarter as the Lion defense of Rashan Gilmore, Myson Robinson, Mike Davis and Tyquan Ennis began to dominate. However, Eastchester went into the half with the 6-0 lead.
In the third quarter Dean Tommarello would come back running hard and followed blocking by fullback Marquez Jackson-Allen on successive plays before breaking a run down the left sideline of 33 yards before being tackled inside of the 5 yard line. But the Lions were called for an illegal movement penalty and the play was called back and the Lion drive ended.
The Lion defense would get the ball back to the offense and Dean Tommarello swept outside for a 25 yard gain but once again the Lions would fumble the football inside of the Eastchester twenty yard line. On defense the Lions stepped up and forced Eastchester into a 3rd down and 14 situation from there own 15 yard line.
But a Eastchester receiver got behind the Lion secondary and caught a pass before running 60 yards inside of the New Rochelle twenty yard line with under 3 minutes left in the game. Two plays later Lion Jordan Davis would intercept a Eastchester pass in the end-zone to give the Lions one last hope. But, despite Rashan Gilmore runs, time ran out with the Lion offense on their own 45 yard line.
