Lions Fall to Monroe-Woodbury in playoffs 12-0
10/26/08

The Lions came home this past Sunday to face Monroe-Woodbury in the Jr. Pee Wee semi-final playoff game. These two teams tied one another in the first game setting the stage for another close contest.

The packed crowd was due for instant excitement when Lion Sincere Savoy kicked off to the Monroe returner. The returner gathered the kick and raced up the right sideline before being knocked out of bounds by Bryce Davis at the Lions 25 yard line.

Monroe would drive inside of the five yard line but a Rashan Gilmore tackle on third down and a Kobe Gathers tackle for a loss on fourth down and goal stopped the Crusaders. Lion offensive running back Jordan Davis put together three power runs behind the blocks of Myles Harvey and Bryson Welch that moved the Lions to the thirty yard line, but the drive stalled and the Lions were forced to punt.

The Monroe offense would have a second chance in good field position when their punt returner gathered 20 yards on the return before being tackled by Dean Tommarello on the sideline. Two plays later, Monroe ran off of left tackle for a 25 yard gain to the 5 yard line. From there the Crusaders ran the ball into the end-zone to take a 6-0 lead near the end of the first quarter.

On the kickoff, Mike Davis gave the Lions good field position with a return that put the ball inside of the Crusader thirty yard line. However, as the second quarter began the Lion offense fumbled the football to Monroe. The remainder of the second quarter saw the two teams play one another evenly and the first half ended with the Lions down 6-0.

The third quarter became a defensive battle until on one possession Lion Jordan Davis punted to Monroe returner on fourth down. The Monroe returner avoided one Lion tackle and raced 60 yards before being pushed out of bounds inside of the Lion 10 yard line. The Crusaders would push into the end-zone to take a 12-0 lead.

After the Monroe kickoff, the Lion offense fumbled away the ball on the first play and the Crusader offense controlled the ball until mid-way through the fourth quarter.

A 15 yard run with a roughing penalty on a Jordan Davis run put the Lions inside of the Monroe thirty yard line. On third down, Monroe would sack Lion quarterback Danny Pistolesi and a fourth down pass completion from Pistolesi to Jordan Davis was 3 yards short of a first down to end the scoring threat.

Other Lions who played well were Marquez Jackson-Allen, Myson Robinson, Tyquan Ennis, Gabriel Perez, Miles Walker, Jeremiah Harris and Habib Dixon.
