Lions Fall to Eastchester 12-0
10/25/09
The Lions up and down season continued on Sunday 10/25/09 as they suffered a 12-0 loss to Eastchester. After the kickoff return, the Lions took the field.
On the first two plays of the game the offense was penalized with movement penalties. After the Lion punt, Eastchester had possession of the ball at their forty yard line. On their first offensive play the Blue Devil runner ran up the middle, cut to the outside and outraced the Lion defensive pursuit into the end-zone. After the extra point failed, the Blue Devils lead 6-0.
On the next Lion possession the offense began to move the football, with Tiason Moreno and Nasheim Highland getting the bulk of the carries. However, the Eastchester defense ended the Lion drive when they swarmed Highland on a run, causing a fumble that was recovered by Eastchester.
The Blue Devils then used the remainder of the 1st quarter and the beginning of the 2nd quarter to drive downfield. The drive was helped by two Lion defensive off-sides penalties. The Blue Devils would eventually score on a ten yard off-tackle run and take a 12-0 lead into halftime.
The two teams batted for field position in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter the Lion offense began to warm up as Jalen Young, Christian Ancrum and Myles Taylor ran the ball downfield thanks to blocking by Luke Clifford and Myles Harvey. Three pass completions from quarterback Myles Taylor to Zachary Lyttle positioned the football inside of the Blue Devils 15 yard line with less than three minutes left in the game.
Three runs by the Lions made it fourth down and one at the 6 yard line. The Eastchester defense was able to get penetration and stop Christian Ancrum short of the first down. The Eastchester offense then took possession and converted a first down that ran the game clock out for the 12-0 victory.
Lions that played well included Paul Wright, Andrew Cappizzano, Khairi Manns, Ahmad Galimore, Victoria Jones-Alleyne, Rashan Sullins, Ryan Love, Elliott Aponte, Marlon Gardner, Makhel Wison, and Joshua Watts.
