Lions Shutdown In Loss 13-0 10/14/07
The Lions began their playoff push this past Sunday with a division final against Eastchester. The game was billed as the battle of the ‘unbeatens’ as both teams entered the game unbeaten, with two ties.
The Lions opened the game with the football and moved the ball downfield thanks to the running of Devonte Banner(24) and Damarcus Miller(27) and Tyler Fernandez(2). Banner(24) had a long gain that eventually led to the Lions being on the Blue Devil 20 yard line. After a Miller(24) run, the Lion offense was called back due to a penalty. The Eastchester defense then dropped the Lion offense for a loss and the Lions turned over the ball on downs. The teams battled for field position until late in the first quarter when a Lion punt was slightly blocked. The block gave the Blue Devils good field position. Eastchester then drove downfield and completed a 20 yard pass for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. The second quarter saw both teams turn the ball over on downs. Eastchester stuck first as a runner had a 45 yard run, before being caught by Lion defender Jordan Davis(80) at the 10 yard line. With one minute left before halftime, this was a crucial possession. The Lion defense, led by Bryson Hayes(21), Akel Walker(52) and Danny Pistolesi(12), (who had a third down pass breakup in the endzone), held Eastchester on the first three plays. However, on fourth down from the three yard line the Blue Devils scored and took a 13-0 lead into the half.
The Lions received the the kickoff in the second half and the offense moved the football into Blue Devil territory thanks to the runs of Hayes(21) and Miller(27). However, a Lion fumble ended the drive. Jordan Davis (80), Vaughn Howard(9) (fumble recovery), Devonte Banner(24) and Danny Pistolesi(12) were noted for holding the Eastchester offense scoreless in the second half. Other who played well were Rashan Gilmore(42), Jevon Taylor(60), DeAndre Louis(78) and Nigel Jones(99)
For the 2007 season, game articles, photos and possible video will be posted mid-week following Sunday's games. Additional photos will be posted after the 50th weekend celebration. Stay tuned.
