Lions Fumble In 6-6 Tie With Eastchester
10/05/08
The undefeated (1 tie)Lions traveled to Eastchester to face their second test of the young season against an opponent equally as talented. Similar to the Monroe-Woodbury game earlier this season, the Lions came away with a tie.
The Lion offense came out firing as Marques Jackson-Allen and Dean Tomarello helped drive to the Eastchester 15 yard line. Kobe Gathers, Myson Robinson, Mile Harvey and Bryce Davis, opened the running lanes. But quarterback Danny Pistolesi and Halfback Rashan Gilmore had a bad exchange and Eastchester recovered the fumble, ending the threat.
The two teams played one another even as Kobe Gathers (fumble recovery) and Vaughn Howard helped the Lion defense hold the Blue Devils offense. Late in the first quarter Lion safety Dean Tomarello picked upEastchester’s second fumble of the day on the run and returned it 60 yards for a Lion touchdown. Rashan Gilmore looked to be over the end-zone on the extra point run, but the referees called it ‘no good’.
Near the end of the second quarter and after the third Lion fumble of the day, Eastchester drove to the Lion 10 yard line before the Lion defense, lead by Mike Davis, held. The Lions went into halftime leading 6-0.
The two teams exchanged possessions in the third quarter. A Eastchester punt pinned the Lion offense on its own 15 yard line. The Lions offense hurt themselves again when an unforced fumble exchange gave the Blue Devils the ball on the Lion 15 yard line. This time Eastchester capitalized and was able to score on the Lion defense. Jeremiah Harris stopped the Eastchester extra point run that could have given Eastchester the lead. But the score stood at 6-6.
The two teams again battled for field position into the fourth quarter. With under three minutes left in the game, the Lion offense marched downfield. Offensively, Dean Tomarello, Rashan Gilmore, Marques Jackson-Allen and Danny Pistolesi lead the way. The Lions drove the ball to the Eastchester 5 yard line when on third and two they fumbled once again to Eastchester, ending the drive. Eastchester then ran out the clock in a mad dash to score from 95 yards away eventually running out of time.
