Lions Comeback and Tie 6-6 9/30/07
In another 9am game the NRYTL Lions came out seemingly still asleep versus a prepared North Rockland Red Raider team on Sunday 9/30/07.
The Lions lost the coin toss and kicked off the football. Within 10 seconds of the game starting and thanks to the kickoff return, the Lions were down 6-0 as the Red Raiders returned the kickcoff 60 yards up the right sideline for a touchdown. Forced to kickoff again, the Lions went on the defensive. However the Red Raiders drove the field eating up much of the first quarter clock. North Rockland drive was ended on the Lion 15 yard line when a penalty and a sack by Jonathan Yudell and Jeremiah Minyard gave the Lions the ball. The Lions were unable to move the ball and were forced to punt, but a bad snap sailed over the punters head and North Rockland once again had the football nside of the Lions twenty yard line. After two straight runs and a first down North Rockland passed the ball near the end-zone where it was intercepted by safety Tyler Fernandez. The Lions then drove the field in desperation to score before the half using Bryson hayes and Danny Pistolesi running, but trailed 6-0 at the half.
The Lions recieved the ball in the second half and decided to run directly at North Rockland. The drive consisted of bull runnning by Bryson Hayes, who carried the ball nearly all of the 75 yards on multiple 5,8, and 15 yard bursts. A Tyler Fernandez two yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown ended the drive and the all important extra point pass fell incomplete, leaving the score 6-6. For the remainder of the game the Lions controlled the tempo but penalties and fumbles stopped Lion drives and the Red Raiders were unable to score again.
For the 2007 season, game articles, photos and possible video will be posted mid-week following Sunday's games. Stay tuned.
