Lions Rebound with 13-0 Win 9/27/09
In the first game of a rain soaked Sunday, the Lions looked to even their record at 2-2 against Spring Valley/Ramapo. The two teams spent the first half feeling one another out and adjusting to the field conditions.
The Lions were the first to threaten when Christian Ancrum blasted thirty yards (behind Makhel Wilson and Ryan Love blocking) inside of the Ramapo thirty yard line. However, the drive stalled.
Both teams played good defense in holding the other from the end-zone. The Lion defense was lead by Zachary Lyttle, Ryan Love, Luke Clifford (fumble recovery) Paul Wright, Nashiem Highland, and Marlon Gardner. Late in the second quarter, Myles Taylor ended another Ramapo drive (inside of the Lion thirty five yard line) with a fourth down pass deflection. The two teams went into the half tied 0-0.
Lion Tiason Moreno helped the Lion cause in the second half when he recovered a Ramapo fumble on the kickoff. The fumble recovery helped the Lions move into SV/Ramapo territory and scoring position. Runs by Zachary Lyttle moved the ball further into scoring position. The Lions would not score on this drive but the two teams spent the remainder of the third quarter in Ramapo territory.
Later in the third quarter the Lion offense took advantage of the short field. Lion Jalen Young put the Lions ahead 6-0 with a 40 yard sprint for a touchdown. Myles Taylor then followed a Khairi Manns block for the extra point run, and the Lions lead 7-0.
The SV/Ramapo offense responded to the Lion touchdown with a strong drive. Their offense moved into Lion territory thanks to a 25 yard run. However, a Myles Taylor tackle caused a fumble that Ahmad Galimore recovered to end the Ramapo threat.
In the fourth quarter, Jalen Young helped the Lion cause with another long run that positioned the Lions inside of Ramapo territory. Jalen Young and Christian Ancrum followed with runs that setup Ancrum’s four yard touchdown behind Miles Harvey to seal the 13-0 Lion win.
Other Lions who played well included Elliott Aponte, Marlon Riley, William Weber, Andrew Capizzano, Joshua Watts, Victoria Jones-Alleyne, and Rashan Sullins.
