Lions Grind Out 19-0 Win
9/14/08
The Jr. Pee Wee Lions opened the NRYTL home season as the first game this past Sunday with another strong showing. Playing a tough Valley Cottage Indian team, the Lions grinded out a 19-0 win.
The Lions came to play on the opening kickoff when halfback Dean Tomarello nearly returned the kickoff back for a touchdown before getting tripped up at the Valley Cottage 25 yard line. The Lions moved the ball closer with power runs by Rashan Gilmore and Isaiah Washington. Jordan Davis put the Lions ahead 6-0 when e sprinted into the end-zone behind the left side blocking by end Bryce Davis, Sincere Savoy and Myson Robinson.
The two teams exchanged possessions throughout the first quarter in a fight for field position. Good defensive plays by Lions Mike Davis, Kobe Gathers, and Marquez Allen-Jackson helped the Lions hold the Indians. The Lion offense opened up when quarterback Danny Pistolesi eluded a potential Indian sack and completed a short pass to Isaiah Washington, who broke a tackle and raced to the end-zone to give the Lions a 12-0 lead at the half.
The Indians looked to make it a game when they returned the second half kickoff for a touchdown against the Lions to close within 12-6. However, the touchdown was called back due to a penalty against Valley Cottage. The Lions added the final score in the fourth quarter when Jordan Davis outran the Valley Cottage secondary 40 yards for his second touchdown of the day, with Marquez Allen-Jackson adding the extra point.
Other Lions who played well were Vaughn Howard, Tyquan Ennis, Paul Wright, Miles Harvey, Marlan Riley, Bryson Welch and Gabe Perez.
