Lions Over valley Cottage 26-6 9/13/09
The Lions returned home a week after their opening day loss looking to show improvement in all aspects of their play against the Valley Cottage Indians.
The Lions opened the game on offense and drove the field behind the blocking of Myles Harvey, Mahkel Wilson, and Ryan Love. The drive would stall deep in Valley Cottage territory and the Lions would go on defense. A Ahmad Galimore fumble recovery in Valley Cottage territory gave the Lions the ball. Jalen Young then sprinted twenty yards to the Valley Cottage 5 yard line. Christian Ancrum finished the drive off with a five yard touchdown burst. Zachary Little added the extra point run and the Lions lead 7-0.
The two teams battled into the second quarter until the Lions put together a nice drive on offense. The drive began when Ancrum recovered another Valley Cottage fumble. Myles Taylor put the Lions up by two scores with a nifty twenty-five yard sprint following the blocks of Elliott Aponte, Will Weber, and Andrew Capizzano.
Once on defense, Luke Clifford would help the Lions to another score when he recovered the third Valley Cottage fumble of the half. Jalen Young then added to the score with a fifty yard touchdown blast off tackle behind Amir Gidden and Victoria Jones-Alleyene. The Lions went into halftime leading Valley Cottage 19-0.
The Lions kept the scoring up in the third quarter when Zachary Little ended a drive with a twenty-five yard touchdown run. Ancrum added the extra point run. To their credit, Valley Cottage did not give up and they put together a drive of their own that lead to their a sixty-five yard touchdown run by their running back to close the scoring at 26-6.
The Lion defense was lead by Ahmad Galimore, Nasheim Highland and Luke Clifford. Other Lions who played well included Paul Wright, Khairi Manns, Marlon Gardner, Tiason Moreno, Marlon Riley, and Joshua Watts.
