Lions Open with Impressive 27-0 Win
The 2008 edition of the Lions opened as the first game of the NRYTL season with a convincing 27-0 victory against a tough North Rockland Red Raider team. The Lion defense came out playing tough from the start, lead by Resean Gilmore, Dean Tomarello, and Kobe Gathers. Once the Red Raiders turned the ball over on downs the Lion offense settled in with strong runs by Washington and Gilmore. Jordan Davis soon followed the blocking of Bryce Davis and Myson Robinson around left end for a 40 yard touchdown.
In the second quarter the Lions offense was pinned deep in their own territory when fullback Marquez Allen-Jackson burst up the middle and put on a spin move racing seventy yards before being tackled at the Noth Rockland five yard line. Allen-Jackson then followed the blocks of Gavin Nelson, Ahmad Galimore and Jahkim McCain for a five yard touchdown two playes later. A Danny Pistolesi extra point carry helped the Lions take a 13-0 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter tackles by Paul Wright, Bryce Davis and Jordan Davis helped the Lion defense stifle the Red Raider offense. Isaiah washington assisted the next drive by running 40 yards around right end to the North Rockland ten yard line. A penalty and a tackle of Pistolesi in the backfield pushed the ball back to the 23 yard line. From there Jordan Davis streaked into the end-zone to advance the Lion lead to 20-0. Good defense by Marlon Gardner, Gabriel Perez and Vaughn Howard helped the Lions hold the red Raiders scoreless. After excahnging possessions the Lions ended the scoring when quarterback Danny Pistolesi optioned around left end for a 45 yard quarterback keeper.
