Lions Defeated 20-6 By New City 9/6/09
The Jr. Pee Wee Lions opened their 2009 season with a tough loss at home against the New City Rams. The Rams began the game on offense and put together a string of first downs with short power running against the Lion defense.
New City moved the ball to the three yard until an off-sides penalty moved them back to the eight yard line. The Lion defense stiffened and on fourth and goal cornerback Paul Wright broke up the end-zone pass attempt.
In the second quarter, beginning on their own three yard line, The Lions were unable to move the ball past the twenty before turning the ball over to New City. New City capitalized on the field position with a touchdown drive early in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead.
A New City onside kick was recovered and the Lions were on defense once again. New City then used the clock and drove the field to the five yard line but with one play left before halftime, Lion Tiason Moreno made a touchdown saving tackle on the Lion one yard line without any time left on the halftime clock and the Lions down 6-0.
In the second half the Lion offense was able to put together their best drive of the day. Jalen Young broke free for a 45 yard run to the New City fifteen yard line. Zachary Little the capped off the drive with a 15 yard touchdown run. The Lion extra point try failed and the teams were tied 6-6.
The teams fought for field position into the fourth until New City broke free on a long touchdown run, converting the extra point to lead 13-6. The Lions weren’t able to sustain their next drive and the fourth down punt snap was mishandled which gave New City the football at the Lion 40. A Ram touchdown run off of left tackle sealed the 20-6 loss for the Lions.
