LIONS Prevail 20-0 Against New City 9/2/07
The 2007 Lion season kicked off with a bang on the second offensive play of the game. Running back Damarcus Miller(27) took a handoff behind the blocks of Ryan Gil (64), Antoine Lewis(14), and Jeremiah Minyard(66) and sprinted 70 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown. After this explosion the two teams settled down and played each other tough for the remainder of the half. A Lion offensive fumble New City was able to drive to the Lion 15 yard line before an attempted pass-pass play was intercepted by Miller(27).
A 30 yard second half kickoff return by Danny Pistolesi(12) set up field position for the remaining 3rd quarter for the Lions. The Lions and Rams exchanged the ball until the Lions' Miller squirted off left tackle behind Charlie Verni(58) for a 50 yard touchdown. Quarterback Tyler Fernandez(2) added the extra point. After holding the Rams offense, Miller then capped his triple for the day by hauling in a short Fernandez pass and sprinting 80 yards to the end zone. Devonte Banner(24) added the extra point around left end to complete the scoring.
The Lion defense was led by the strong play of Banner, Bryce Davis(43), Akel Walker(52), CJ Anthony(11) with a interception, Pistolesi, Bryson Hayes(21) and Fernandez.
