Hello.
I would like to thank you for a wonderful event on Saturday. My husband and son had a wonderful time! I think it's such a wonderful thing when adults, whether celebrity or not, do anything for the children! These type of programs help boost self esteem and teach our youth that if you stay focused, and always give your best, wonderful opportunities are available. Please keep me on the mailing list. We look forward to the next event.

playing for NRYTL was easiy one of the best experiences of my life. I built many friendships & made alot of memories practicing at City Park & playing at Fosina Field on sunday mornings. Besides teaching the game of football, we also learned the values of teamwork, commitment & finishing the task. i played on the '00 Lions team that won the championship vs. North Yonkers & the '01 T-Bolts team that won the bowl game against baltimore down in North Carolina. 2 very fond memories i am proud of till this day. Shout outs to all my YTL teammates & friends & a big shout out to coach butts, coach biggie, coach bartee, coach black, coach creed n all the other coaches i played for during my tenure, keep doing ya'll's thing! First i would like to thank Joe, chico, smitty and anyone else who i may have left out.... a couple of weeks ago i asked joe if he could accomodate my son who was staying with my mother in New Ro for a week. my son begins his first year in pop warner in philly and because we hve family vacations and familiy visits scheduled, he would miss most of Augusts practices and would not be able to play in the first two or three games... i didnt want to disappoint my son so i despertly ask if some thing could be done... like a champion New Ro is, Joe, smitty and chico made it happen. my son had a week of practice, the "New Ro way" and i truly appriciate it. these practices along with bringing him back early will allow him to probably miss only one game and go on and compete in the mojority of the games. thank you allfor your support... it's always good to come home...

(This is part 3. Parts 1 and 2 are below.) I still remember seeing my name in the paper when I had a good game and when I won one of the many "MVP" awards that were given out one year and feeling like I was 10 feet tall and on top of the world, even if I was only 4 foot something and 100 lbs and on the "B String." Man, was I proud. And I still haven't recovered from when we lost to the Arrows in 1979 under the lights at Trinity on a last second 65 yard pass play that bounced off of Michael Rhodes' head and into the hands of Keita Speed who ran it in from about the 50 for the TD. That still hurts!! But they still know we were the better team!! Anyway, I would also mention that I went to a game with my kids down at City Park this year for the first time since I played. The new field is beautiful and it was great to see the kids and that this tradition is continuing and flourishing. Thanks again to all of those who have given their time to young kids in the YTL program. I think

(This is part 2. Part 1 is below.) I remember you fondly, James, and hope that you are well. I even remember your YTL Redskins jacket didn't have your name -- rather, it said "Killer." I can remember more than once my mom driving some of us (I think you too sometimes) back from practice in the Chevette with Byron Kershaw, Pepe Mannagault (sp.?), Richie "Spider" Page, and probably others I'm forgetting. I also remember with some pain getting paired up with you in the nutcracker drill. You could hit but I didn't back down! I also remember Nicky Santiago, Frederick Walton, Dukie Ross, Douglas Ewell, Michael Rhodes, Pippo, Peter Parente, Barrett, and a lot of others whose names are not coming to me right now. The coaches I remember at this time were Rocky T., Mr. Eaton, Pappy Hansen, Joe, Mr. Vance, and Mr. Hynes. Hopefully I won't bore anyone too much with this long message but this great website really brought back some terrific memories about the YTL. Over the years, I have thought about how great the YTL was and what a great influence it had on me. Especially in hindsight, I can't thank enough all of the coaches who so generously gave us their time to lead us. How did they manage to coach us two hours everyday in practice and coach the games and still fulfill all of life's other responsibilities? What a generous commitment they made to young kids. What I most remember about playing was the comraderie and team spirit we all developed as teammates and the way the coaches treated us like men even though we were barely 10 years old. We gave hard effort to them everday in practice because they expected it from us, no matter how little we were -- great lessons for life. After reading James the Killer Oliver's message below, it really brought back the memories. I remember you fondly, James

Where have the years gone? Recieved a phone call about your web site and did it bring back so many fond memories. I started playing NRYT in 1959 on the Neptune Condors with the likes of the following: Edmond Dennis,Steve Heintz,Oliver Hunter,Marc and Ira kaufman, Tedy Kramer,Russell Lewis,Amber Rooney,Tim Woellner, Eric Schoenbaum,Stevie Richardson,Ralph Cosantino And Bruce Flowers.(sorry if I left anybody out) We had some great coaches also - Ed Luftig, Paul Dennis and my dad Bob Mangels. All the teams, for those that can think back that far, were sponsored by the Neptune Moving Company.Played 3 more years with NRYT,3 years with NRHS and then 2 years of college ball. What I learned about football I owe to all the great coaching I had through those wonderful years. Its a great honor to be inclued on the 50th Anniversity picture along with Daryel Smith, Tom Yizer,Steve Mark and Tim Woellner. Whats Good? YTL has played a major part in all of our lives somehow or another. And as the website is a great one, it is missing key photos and stats from many players who dominated and made the league what it is today, not to mention who inspired many of the kids playing today. As a fan and supporter i would like to see photos of former players such as the GREAT CURTIS COLEMAN, JUSTIN "SLAPPY" SMITH(who currently is serving our government),the days when we seen Dejon Boyd and Eric Mitchell grace the field, Not to mention Tyjuan Corn as well as Hakeem Rhett. The last days of Bailey and Holly. Would love to see the memories of the hardest working team in YTL the T-Bolts, with coaches Biggie,Black, and Mike. The good old days. SO IF YOU CAN MAKE THAT HAPPEN THAT WOULD BE A PLUS TO YOUR WEBSITE!!

NRYTL...what can I say? I have some great memories from back in the day. Hassan, Beaver, Rich Page, B-Kershaw, John Hunter, Benson Bracey and a bunch of others who's names escape me right now, but you know who you are! I must say that I remember going underfeated and unscored upon as a Redskin, underfeated on the Thunderbolts and the Chiefs. I remember going to Florida and coming home with the victory and one thing I will never forget..."BRA" FLOWERS! He was probably the best coach to ever coach a YTL team! I remember him colapsing on the field doing what he love the most. I don't remember him dying as much as I remember him living life to the fullest. BRA Flowers and YTL kept me out of trouble and helped me to become the person that I am today! Thank you to Flowers family for allowing me to share Ernie "Bra" Flowers and Thank you to the NRYTL for providing an outlet to a bunch of young knuckle heads that made good because of your organization! Keep up the good work!!!
Peace to all

Just want to say what a great night it was for me last week at the 50th Anniversary Party. To see the likes of Dakey & Bakia, two of my old nemesis when they were on the Redskins and I was on the Vikings. We later played on the t-bolts and chiefs together. Another guy I played with, Vaughn Massey still looking like he can go out there and play 4 qtrs at QB. And three guys Nick Woods, Chauncey Hamlett, and Omar Smalls, who played on the 1986 Colts with me, the most talented team ever assembled at one time. That team got robbed in the rain against Eastchester when the game was moved from the New Ro H.S. field to the old sand box at City Park. Anyway, the memories. Thanks to everyone I saw that night and didn't see. God Bless.

I played YTL with a Douglas Thomas (we called him "Dewgie") and he introduced me to Bubby Greene, who I later played football with in High School (actually he played ... and I sat on the bench)... many, many years after that I was at a New Rochelle game and swore I saw Bubby still playing... and had to do a double take when I realized I was wathcing his son, Courtney... a spitting image of his father who sadly passed away.

Much love to all NRYTL family. Our history goes deep, and I'm truly blessed to be a part of a big tradition that started for me in the 70's with the Redskin, Chiefs, and Colts. I learned how to play the game at this stage, and have had the honor and pleasure to pass on my athletic skills as a coach to many younger athletes around the country....I thank all my early coaches for teaching me discipline, team work, and great sportsmanship to help not just with sports, but in life.
A great website that brings back crazy memories from back in the days. Much love to all my former teammates (too many to name)....We were 'loaded' with talent that had everyone predicting that we would be the best squad that hit New Rochelle High, and we did just that by finishing NY State Champs in 1980, and the last undefeated team from NRHS since. Probably the best team from the high school..Thanks YTL-

I cheered with YTL for many years. I can still remember the name of every coach that I've ever had. Coaches: Mrs. Anna Nashid, Mrs. D. Cherry, Robin, Tammy, Valerie, Gloria Deans, melissa hogue and Mrs Davis. Thank you for the time and commitment that you put into making me a member of the YTL family. I am proud to say that the tradition lives on. My son is playing on the same team where I started. "Go Vikings!" Thank you to Coach Mike, Julius, Dickey, Kev and Mamma Nancy for making me a part of the team again.
Huggs to Joe Fossina.

I just like to say that I miss everyone in New Rochelle so much. My name is John Woods and I played NRYTL. for many years and I truly believe that I hold all the rushing records in NRYTL.I think we should have some type of reunion/rewards dinner for ex players that played with all their hearts because back then we really wer'e family.
I like to say hello to all my ex coaches mr.brian bailey,mr. joe fasina,mr. tom holly and a special thanks to the person who showed the most about having heart and playing to win mr.calvin whitfield.
I love you all and I hope to hear back from you.I'm very serious about reuniting the old players back together for some type of reunion;maybe some type of NRYTL hall of fame?
NRYTL years where the best years of my life and I will never ever forget them or my teamates. I really enjoyed coaching for 2 years the redskins at that time 1983 & 1984.
I hope to hear from you soon; and love you all.

On behalf of my team VCI FLAG RED, I would like to share some comments in
regards to the games played last Saturday at New Rochelle. I do not know if
New Ro has had flag in past years or not but the coaches, players and
parents who attended/participated at the games last week were in my opinion
some of the best I have seen in our flag program in the 7+ years I have
been coaching flag football for VCI. It was for a change 100% FUN!!!! The
mood was kept light and friendly, the kids had a blast, they had an
announcer which made the kids feel special and they had lots of spectators
in the stands which showed the support for these children competing. I
received the exact comments form Jim S. (Head Coach FLAG GREY) in regards
to their game played earlier in the day.
Please let the folks at New Ro know how much we appreciate their
participation, hospitality and overall great sportsmanship providing a
great FUN FUN FUN day for our children. It really is refreshing to see
folks who know how to keep Flag Football in prospective. HATS OFF TO
THEM!!!!
Thanks & Regards,
Bob Woods

I just came by to check out the site and I love it!! Keep up the good work!!
One thing that help if you can make a list of alumni players. It shouldn't matter if they went on and continue to play sports or not. (just my opinion!!)
I am a former New Rochelle YTL player (77- 86 vikings and bolts)and currently I am a football coach. (out of state of NY)

Comments:
New Rochelle Youth Hockey is running a program to encourage New Rochelle kids who wouldn't ordinarily consider playing hockey the chance to do so. We have received a grant of equipment from Nike and are offering 10 scholarships to our Winter intro to hockey clinic. We have decided to offer these scholarships to NRYTL flag football participants.
Please go to our website at www.nryh.org for more information or email info@nryh.org.
The program starts in late October and thus should not conflict with Youth Tackle.

As the grandson of Commissioner Emeritus, John F. Pollard, it brings
me great joy to have found this website. I grew up around the NRYTL and am very
proud of the legacy that the league and everyone that has ever been associated
with it has built. I nearly shed tears seeing that my grandfather is still
remembered by the NRYTL. The league continues to hold a special place in my
heart and my family's (grandmother Iris Pollard, father Douglas Bartee) hearts.
To Mr. Fosina, Mrs. Eaton, Mr. McKnight and all of the longtime YTL leaders and
members, we miss you and wish you continued success.
May God eternally bless the NRYTL!
Sincerely,
Derek Bartee
