ChiefS Play to 8-8 Tie
10/11/09

The Chiefs traveled to Suffern on Sunday to face off against the Orangetown Patriots in Jr. Midget action and came back in the game for to forge an 8-8 tie.

Orangetown began the day on offense and quickly moved down field against the Chief defense. Short runs positioned the Patriots inside of the Chiefs red-zone, where they would score the opening touchdown of the game. The extra point kick conversion was successful and Orangetown lead 8-0.

In the second quarter the Chiefs offense began to move the ball. Runs by Charles Anthony, Bryson Hayes and Jonathan Forrest positioned the Chiefs inside of the Patriot five yard line. Penalties and a short run moved the ball back to the 18 yard line. On fourth and goal Jonathan Forrest passed to Rakim Parker who caught the pass and fought to get into the end-zone. Parker was tackled on the one yard line and the Chiefs turned the ball over on possession just before halftime behind 8-0.

In the third and fourth quarter the Chief defense clamped down and the two teams exchanged field position. Late in the fourth quarter, the Chief defense forced Orangetown to punt from inside of the Orangetown five yard line. Rakim Parker broke through the line and blocked the punter’s kick attempt, resulting in a two point safety, and the Chiefs were behind 8-2 with less than three minutes left in the game.

Due to the safety, the Chiefs received the ensuing free kick from Orangetown. With time running out, Jonathan Forrest and Bryson Hayes highlighted the Chiefs offensive drive. After penalties and fumbles, Quarterback Nas Shelton would pass to Forrest on a critical third and 15 that Forrest ran down to the Orangetown twenty-five yard line.

Two more Forrest runs put the ball on the Orangetown one with less than a minute left in the game. CJ Anthony then took over with a dive into the end-zone to tie the game. The Orangetown defense then penetrated the Chiefs line and stopped Anthony on the extra point run, with the score 8-8.

The Chiefs were lead by Jahari Ferrell, Jordan Lawrence, Jonathan Yudell, Jordan Luzzi, and Charlie Anthony. Other Chiefs who played well included Jevon Taylor, Tyrell Bennett, Keimon Barrow, Ishmael Ben-Reuben, Ameir Lewis, Zachary Sweetland, and Michael White.
