ChiefS Grind Out Win In The Rain 9/28/08
The Chiefs returned home on 9/28/08 and and after 3 tough games earned their first victory of the season against traditional rival Eastchester.
.
Chief Gavin Harley didn’t let the rain affect him as he started the Chiefs scoring day with a scoring run to give the Chiefs a quick 6-0 lead in the opening period. The Chief defense then took control as Aaron Freeze, Evan Adams-DeYounge,Armani Parker, Gavin Harley, Jordan Lawrence, and Wjante Holden clamped down on the Eastchester attack.
Tyreik Kerr looked to extend the lead with a burst into the end-zone from 40 yards away, but the touchdown was called back due to penalty. The teams exchanged possessions and the Chief defense forced the Blue devils to punt.
Donovan Powell added to the Chief lead when he caught a Eastchester punt and weaved his way through the coverage unit 45 yards into the end-zone. Powell then added the extra point run. The Powell touchdown allowed the Chiefs to take a 13-0 lead into the half. The second half saw the two teams committing turnovers due to the weather conditions. The Chiefs offense would fumbled the ball and the Blue Devils would turn the ball back over to the Chiefs.
In the fourth quarter, Chief running back Malik Smith made a long run to the Eastchester twenty yard line before fumbling the football while being tackled. The Eastchester offense attempted to pass in the rainy weather, but Chief cornerback Donovan Powell fought a Blue Devil receiver for the ball and intercepted it.
Smith then made up for his previous fumble by sweeping 46 yards down the right sideline and into the end-zone for a touchdown. Quarterback Beinson Bracey added the extra point run to seal the final 20-0 score.
Other Chiefs who played well were Joe Clarke, Anthony Battle, Jahair Thompson, Corey Holder, Sam Schwarz, Max Moore, Chris Gamby, Juvon Canty, and Dontae Brisco.
