ChiefS Upend Valley Cottage 20-0 9/13/09
The Chiefs returned home on Sunday looking to even their record after a close loss in their home opener. The Valley Cottage jr. midget team would be this weeks opponent.
The first half saw the teams battle for field position. The Chiefs would move the ball well behind the running of Bryson Hayes and Jonathan Forrest. But the Chiefs offense was not able to capitalize on scoring opportunities against the Valley Cottage defense. The game was tied at halftime 0-0.
In the second half the Chiefs running game would take its toll on the Valley Cottage defense. Charlie Anthony opened the game up with a sixty yard sprint for a touchdown. Anthony then ran in the extra point to put the Chiefs’ up 7-0.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Valley Cottage return man ran directly up the middle and broke away from the Chiefs kickoff team. He was seemingly on his way to a touchdown that could tie the close game. However, Keimon Barrow chased him down inside of the Chiefs twenty yard line. The defense of Jevon Taylor, Jordan Luzzi, Jordan Lawrence and Nasir Shelton helped hold the Indians out of the end-zone.
The Chief offense had the ball once again and did not take long to add to the scoring. Bryson Hayes started the drive with as thirty-five yard blast. A penalty added to a Brandon Trotta run put the ball inside of the Indian thirty yard line. Jonathan Forrest then took over with two runs that ended with a two yard plunge for a touchdown and a 13-0 Chief lead.
In the fourth quarter a Rakim Parker fumble recovery on the Indian 25 yard line would help seal the game. Charlie Anthony would take over the drive with consecutive runs that ended with a 15 yard touchdown. Quarterback Nasir Shelton passed to Bryson Hayes for the extra point and the final scoring.
Chiefs who played well included, Jonathan Yudell, Michael White, Ishmale Ben-Ruben, Jahair Thompson, Tyrell Bennett, Max Moore, Devin Delapaz, Kyler Callands, and William Bloom.
