ChiefS Fall 12-6 Against New City
The Jr. Midget Chiefs opened their 2009 season on Sunday versus the New City Rams at Fosina field. The two teams battled for the entire contest, but the Chiefs suffered a 12-6 loss.
In the first quarter, New City came out driving the football inside of Chiefs territory. The Chiefs defense then stiffened and caused a fumble that was recovered by Chiefs’ linebacker Jonathan Forrest at their twenty yard line.
Once on offense the Chiefs quarterback Nasir Shelton was sacked and fumbled the football back to New City. New City then punched the ball into the end-zone for a 6-0 lead in the game.
In the second quarter, the Chief defense got the ball back to the offense. Three Jonathan Forrest runs quickly moved the ball into good field position. Nasir Shelton then sprinted 30 yards for a touchdown that tied the game at 6-6 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, running by Bryson Hayes helped advance the Chiefs offense into scoring position but the Chiefs were unable to convert a fourth down inside of the Rams 25 yard line. The two teams exchanged field position into the fourth quarter when a New City short pass and run to their tight end resulted in a 55 yard touchdown, giving New City a 12-6 lead. Despite sharp passing from Shelton to Rakim Parker the Chiefs were unable to sustain a drive that would tie or win the game.
Defensively the Chiefs were lead by Jahari Ferrell, Jordan Lawrence, Jonathan Yudell, Jordan Luzzi, and Charlie Anthony. Other Chiefs who played well included Jevon Taylor, Tyrell Bennett, Keimon Barrow, Ishmael Ben-Reuben, Ameir Lewis, Zachary Sweetland, and Michael White.
