Broncos Fight but Fall Short
10/7/07

The Broncos traveled to Monroe-Woodbury this past Sunday and put on a show for the crowd in a tough defeat. In the first half, the Bronco defense had a tough time adjusting to the Monroe-Woodbury offensive scheme, which needed clarification. However, once the issue was resolved and the game went back to the field, the Broncos showed their toughness. After being down 21-0 at the half, the Broncos came out determined.

Jalen Young(15) opened the Broncos scoring on a nifty touchdown run in the third quarter, closing the score to 21-6. The Bronco defense stiffened and when they went back on offense, Gregory Powell(9) took off for a 50 yard touchdown. The successful extra point closed the score to 21-13. The Crusaders answered with another touchdown in the third, but later in the quarter the Broncos defense recovered a fumble and Young(15) then moved the offense to the one yard line where he snuck in for a touchdown, closing the score to 28-20. The Crusaders were able to score once again, taking a 36-20 lead. Unfazed, the Broncos offense came back as quarterback Jalen Young(15) hit Marlon Cherry(14) for a touchdown catch and run with nearly 4 minutes still left in the game. Coach Flowers recognized that the score was 36-26 and that the Broncos would need to kick a 2 point conversion to pull within a tying, or winning touchdown. Cherry(14) stepped up to the challenge, even though he nor the Broncos as a team had never practiced kicking. Cherry nailed the kick, giving the Broncos hope if they could get the ballback one last time. However, Monroe-Woodbury was able to run out the clock, recognizing that the Broncos had momentum.

The Bronocs played tough all day even without the services of  Kyree Griffin(70), who had an arm injury this week. Others who played well in this game were Harvey Miles(62), Benjamin Peters (65), Nasheim Highland(42), Makai Johnson(34), Jordan Lewis(24), Marcus Wallace(16), Haitam Coughlin(10) and Habib King(99).
