Vikings Thrill in comeback attempt 25-32
9/10/06

If you enjoy offense then the most exciting game of the day was the thrilling game played by the Mitey-Mite Vikings against Monroe-Woodbury. Monroe Woodbury opened the scoring on the second play of the game with a 60 yard touchdown run. the extra point was stopped by (12) of the Vikings to make the score 6-0. The Vikings CJ Anthony then scored on their first play from 70 yards away to tie the score. After several Viking defensive stops led by Jeremiah Minyard(19) and Nick Papagno (31) Monroe-Woodbury was able to score twice and led 19-6 at the half.

Coach Rivers team came out in the third quater with another Anthony 70 yard touchdown run, cutting the score to 19-12, however the Crusaders were prepared and scored again to make the score 25-12 in the fourth quater of play. At this point the game looked bleak for the Vikings but Anthony sprung lose again for a 60 yard touchdown (xp failed), cutting the score to 18-25 with 9:45 left to play.

The Crusaders were keying on Anthony at this point yet he still sprung away for another long gain to the 15 yard line. From there Vaughn Howard(9) scored on a scamper with Anthony adding the extra point to tie the game at 25-25.

Unfortunately the Crusaders were able to score once more to take the lead at 32-25 and the Vikings were unable to continue their drive as time expired.

Vikings Battle to 6-6 Tie 9/17/06

A week after lighting up the scoreboard with 25 points of offense and allowing 32 points on defense, the Vikings showed that they can play a tough defensive football game.

The first half moved fast as both teams attempted to figure out how to move the ball. The visitors then scored on a 25 yard run around left end against the Vikings.

The visitor keyed on Vikings running back CJ Anthony and held him in check in the first half. In the third quarter Anthony was able to get free on a 55 yard jaunt around around right end that tied the game.

Vikings Held Down 9/24/06

The NRYTL Vikings traveled to North Rockland to face their B team. Unfortunately the Vikings were not able to bring their "A" game. The Red Raiders of North Rockland were able to contain the Vikings main runners Jalen Young (15), CJ Anthony (12) and Myson Robinson (25). On the other hand the Red Raiders were able to run outside on the Vikings defense, which led to all of their scoring.

Coach Rivers praised the all aroun defforts of the team, as they did not give up playing hard. Including Vaugh Howard (9), Trevon Bolden (92) Marion Riley (80), Joshua Watts (17), Chris Hurst (40) Tysaan Towns (66) and Marquez Jackson (49).

Vikings Mitey Mite Day A Success 9/30/06

On Saturday 9/30/06 The Mitey Mite Vikings traveled to Valley Cottage to participate in the Rockland County Pop Warner Mitey Mite Day. This event is held each year by a League host and it includes Round Robin Play. The Vikings scrimmaged against six different teams and scores were not kept. The teams scrimmaged three opponents, were "interrupted" by lunch being fed to all of the teams, then scrimmaged three additional opponents. Everyone played extensively and had a good time.

Vikings Regroup Against North Rockland 10/08/06

On Sunday 10/08/06 The Mitey Mite Vikings traveled to Rockland County to face the Red Raiders once again. This was the second trip to Red Raider country and the second time the Vikings faced this team. The first being only a week ago in the Mitey-MIte Day scrimmage. The Vikings played this team tough only a week ago but were unable to sustain it this week. The Red Raiders opened the scoring on the first drive and they were able to build upon the lead with multiple scores.

The Vikings countered in the second half with strong running by Jalen Young (15), Vaughn Howard (9) and Jordan Davis (82), but they were unable to put the ball in the end-zone. Defensively, Dante Moreno (10), Marquez Jackson (49), Jovani Jones (21), and Myson Robinson (25) led the way for the Vikings.

Vikings Show Improvement in Second Half 10/15/06

The Mitey Mite Vikings have been through a tough season of learning. A new coaching staff and only two veterans returning from last season has made victory a challenge. On Sunday 10/15/08 against a heavily favored team the Vikings seemed to turn the corner in the second half. The Vikings held the New City team scoreless in the second half of play and began to move the ball on offense. It seems Coach Rivers has found a backfield with quarterback Vaughn Howard(9) leading the offense and the running of Jordan Davis (82), Jalen Young (15) and Myson Robinson (25). Christian Ancrum (51), Mike Davis (35) and Nicholas Papagno (31)cleared the way with blocks.

The defense continuely stopped New City in the second half and was led by Joshua Watts (17), Jeremiah Minyard (19), Trevon Bolden (92), Marquez Jackson(49), Jovani Jones (21) and Dante Moreno (10). On Sunday the Vikings showed that they have a foundation to build on.

Vikings Show Toughness in Second Half 10/22/06

For the second week in a row the Mitey-Mite Vikings came out and played tough in the first half of play .....but found themselves behind. And for the second consecutive week the Vikings came out in the second half and stopped their opponent from scoring. Players who are in new positions are beginning to play with more confidence each week, and it showed in the second half against Suffern. The Vikings offense came together as Jordan Davis (82) pounded his way for tough yards and first downs. Jalen Young (15) flashed bursts of speed out of the backfield and quarterback Vaughn Howard (9) excited the crowd with cross-field runs before being tackled. In the first half Suffern scored all of its points on outside runs. In the second half defensive ends Jordan Davis (82) and Jeremiah Minyard (19) helped contain Suffern's attack. Joshua Watts (17), Jovani Jones (21), Myson Robinson (25) and Trevon Bolden (92) also contributed to the strong second half performance.

Vikings Show Progress in Comeback Bid 10/29/06

With each week the Vikings have shown improvement. This week another milestone was passed as they put up a great fight in a comeback bid against Orangetown. After falling behind in the first half the Vikings once again shutdown their opponent in the second half. In addition to holding the Orangetown offense from scoring they also scored twice in the attempted comeback. The offense put together a string of first down drives led by quarterback Vaughn Howard(9) before running back Jordan Davis(82) burst off tackle for a 50 yard touchdown. On the next defensive series Davis(82) then stripped a Orangetown runner of the football and ran it in for a touchdown from 40 yards, cutting the score to 18-12. The teams then battled for the remainder of the 3rd quarter with Jovani Jones(21) recovering a fumble that prevented a Orangetown touchdown and Jeremiah Minyard(19) and Myson Robinson(25) chasing down long Orangetown runs. Orangetown was able to score once more in the fourth quarter to put the game away, but for the third straight week the Vikings showed improvement.Strong performances by Marquez Jackson(49), Jalen Young(15), Josh Watts(17), Trevon Bolden(92) and Nicholas Papagno(31), contributed to the Vikings successes.

Vikings End game With Howard To Davis Touchdown 11/5/06

In recent weeks the pattern has been that the Mitey-Mite Vikings would fall behind their opponent and then attempt a comeback , and Sunday was the same. After falling behind against the Orangetown Patriots, the Vikings came out in the second half and shutdown their opponents potent offense. In the second half Coach Rivers went to workhorse running back Jordan Davis(82) and he responded with a spectacular 60 yard touchdown run up the middle. Davis' touchdown was due thanks to blocks by Marquez Jackson(49) and Trevon Bolden(92). Quarterbacks Jalen Young(15) and Vaughn Howard(9) were keys to the Vikings moving the ball in the second half with sprints around the end. With less than a minute remaining in the game Howard(9) dropped back to pass and hit a streaking Davis(82) with a 25 yard bomb and Davis ran the rest of the way for a 60 yard touchdown. Even though the game ended with this play, the crowd roared and the Viking players and coaches were rightfully excited with the touchdown and the progress this team is making.

Besides Davis, other noticeable performances were by Jalen Young(15), Trevon Bolden(92), Nicholas Papagno(31), Tiason Moreno(22) , Josh Watts(17), Jovani Jones(21), Jeremiah Minyard(19) and Myson Robinson(25).

Vikings Battle in the Rain 11/12/06

The Mitey-Mite Vikings had shown considerable improvement in recent weeks as their scoring picked up and their defense pitched second half shutouts. However, as has been the case with all of our other NRYTL teams (besides the Chiefs), the Vikings were unable to build on playing well the week before. The Vikings played a tough Monroe-Woodbury B squad in the rain and fought throughout the game. Monroe-Woodbury scored on offensive drives and the Vikings were unable to capitalize on the hard running of Jordan Davis(82) and Jalen Young(15). The wet ball became an issue with both teams and the game became a slugfest in the mud. Quarterback Vaughn Howard(9) attempted to break free for one of his patented across field runs but was unable to secure good footing. Monroe-Woodbury scored in the second half of play but the Vikings were unable to put the ball in the end-zone in this game.

The Viking offense was helped by the play of Jeremiah Minyard(19), Marion Riley(80), Christian Ancrum(51), Tecumseh Long(75), Michael Davis(35) and Nicholas Papagno(31). Defensive support was by Trevon Bolden(92), Kenneth Shaw(98), Marquez Jackson(49) and Tiason Moreno(22).

Even with a change to a tougher league, a new coaching staff, and only a few players who had participated in organized football before this season, the Vikings of 2007 still showed the ability to compete and succeed in spurts. The coaching staff, and the especially the players, who showed up everyday should be proud of completing their first NRYTL season.
