Chiefs Prevail with late touchdown 13-6
9/10/06

The 2006 season began for the Chiefs with Monroe Woodbury as the opponent. This game featured excellent defense on the part of both teams until 2:57 was left in the half. Jordan Frenza returned a punt to the Crusaders 10 yard line. The Chiefs were able to capitalize with a Frenza to Emmanuel Vinson touchdown pass to take a 6-0 halftime lead. The Crusaders fought back in the third quarter with a sustained drive that culminated in a 6 yard TD run. The remainder of the game featured defense as key stops by Jordan Lucas of the Chiefs helped hold the Crusaders. Lewis (2) Edney put the game in control for the Chiefs with a 40 yard touchdown with 37 seconds left in the game. The Crusaders attempted a last minue comeback but their key running back was stiopped on 4th down by Emmanuel Vinson to seal the victory.

Chiefs Roll 27-6 9/17/06

This past weekend the Chiefs came out determined to set the tone early. On their first possession the Chiefs marched down the field with key runs by Jordan Lucas (17) and Nahji Williams (7). The drive ended with a "2" Edney 35 yard scamper to the endzone. The Chiefs extended the lead when Cullen Martin displayed his speed on a 71 yard dash in the second quarter. Suffern was able to score in the third quarter and close the score to 14-6, but the Chiefs put the game away with another Edney (2) 35 yard touchdown and a Williams (7) to Emmanuel Vinson (9) touchdown pass. Coach Butts prased the efforts of his defense led byJulius Dubose (75), Jordan Frenze (1), Shane Davis (52), Khari Pennicooke (77) and Wayne Nelson (40)

Chiefs Remain Unbeaten-- Win 13-0 9/24/06

The NRYTL Chiefs traveled to North Rockland to play a tough league opponent on the road this past Sunday and it didn't take long for the Chiefs to establish that they were prepared to play. Starting from their own 25 yard line the Chiefs moved the ball downfield with runs by feature backs "2" Edney (2) and Jordan Lucas (17). Lucas then put on a show of speed with a 25 yard gallop around right end for a touchdown. However the touchdown was called back due to a holding penalty on the Chiefs. On the very next play Lucas outran the Red Raider defense down the left sideline for a 35 yard score.

The Chiefs continued to move the ball with strong running by Nahji Williams (7), Jordan Frenza (1) and Kemet Mclean (31), but ended the half leading 6-0. In the second half the Chiefs extended the lead to 13-0 when Lucas scored from 3 yards out and Quaterback Williams passed to Emmanuel Vinson (9)for the extra point.

Coach Butts was impressed with the blocking of Jeff Spence (60), Shane davis (52), and Conner Schwarz (88), The defense was led by Ezra Ward(4), Martin Cullen (22) and Wayne Nelson (40).

Chiefs Show Toughness In 13-12 Win 10/01/06

On Sunday October 1st The NRYTL Chiefs hosted The Eastchester Bluedevils at Joe Fosina Field. There are many of us who have played in and remember this rivalry at the Jr. Midget level and the many close battles betwen these teams, and Sunday was no different. In a show of toughness the Chiefs executed Coach Butts' game plan and came away with a hard fought 13-12 victory.

The Chiefs offense countered the Eastchester defense with the running of Martin Cullen (22), and the feared tandem of Jordan Lucas (17) and Lewis "2" Edney (2). Short runs by quarterbacks Nahji Williams (7) and Jordan Frenza (1) lead to touchdowns by Edney(2) and Williams(7). The Bluedevils were able to match the Chiefs with touchdowns but the Chiefs defense stopped a critical extra point. The Chiefs are undefeated and in first place in the Rockland County Pop Warner League heading into the last game before the playoffs begin.

Once again the offensive and defensive fronts of the Chiefs controlled the game. Siqueira Lucas (28)), Shane Davis (52), and Juluis Dubose (75) handled the dirty work on the offensive line, and the defense was led by the efforts of Khari Pennicooke (77), Xavier Greene (15) and Kemet Mclean(31).

Chiefs Continue Winning Ways 25-0 10/08/06

On Sunday October 8, The NRYTL Chiefs traveled to Park Ridge New Jersey to face the Bergen County Broncos. After the pregame ceremonies the Chiefs recieved the kickoff and began on offense. On the very first play of the game quarterback Jordan Frenza (1)looped around right end for a gain before fumbling the ball away, giving Bergen County the ball in good field position. This was an example of the way this game would go as Bergen continuely had decent field position but were unable to score against the tough Chiefs defense and also, Frenza would make up for his miscue later.

The Chiefs opened the scoring with quarterback Nahji Williams (7) bootlegging around left end and outrunning the secondary down the sideline for a 57 yard score. The two teams battled for field position until Frenza (1) ran around right end for a 30 yard gain that included a facemask penalty against Bergen that put the ball on the 15 yard line. From there Martin Cullen (22) veered off left tackle for a touchdown.

In the second half the Chiefs moved the ball with strong runs by "2" Edney (2) and Jordan Lucas(17). These drives ended with a Williams (7) to Frenza (1) 15 yard touchdown pass, however the touchdown was called back for a holding penalty. The Chiefs said "no problem" and Williams (7) threw another touchdown pass to Frenza (1) on the very next play. A Kemet Mclean (31) 5 yard touchdown run and Mclean (31) extra point run completed the scoring.

Coach Butts and the Chiefs displayed class as they drove the ball to the Bergen County 5 yard line with B squad players, but refused to run up the score by kneeling down on 4 consecutive plays and giving the ball to Bergen County with 20 seconds left in the game. Ezra Ward (4), Xavier Green(12), Ryan Landrine (21), Jon Camacho-Miller (50), and Jeffery Spence(60) led the defense in the Chiefs shutout victory.

Chiefs Shutout another 30-0 10/15/06

For the sixth week in a row the Chiefs showed up to play football and left with a victory. For the second week in a row the Chiefs shutout their opponent while scoring, seemingly at will. If you have been following this team you know that it consists of 2 quarterbacks and at least 5 running backs who can give a defense headaches, and on Sunday 10/15/06, it was more of the same.

The Chiefs opened the scoring with great field position as Jordan Lucas (17) caught the opening kickoff and nearly returned it for a touchdown. From there Lewis "2" Edney (2) drove it in with a touchdown and extra point. Lucas (17) came back on the next drive and capped it off with a 1 yard plunge off tackle behind the blocking of Shane Davis(52), Jon Camacho-Miller (50) and Emmanuel Vinson (9). Jordan Frenza (1) caught a Nahji Williams(7) pass for the extra point.

Frenza and Williams added to the scoring with a 27 yard touchdown in the third quarter to extend the lead and running back Ryan Landrine(21) finished the scoring with a 39 yard burst up the middle in the fourth quarter.

The defense gave the offense good field position thanks to intercepetions by Edney (2), Martin Cullen (22) and Xavier Green (12). Other defensive standoouts included Ezra Ward (4), Wayne Nelson (40), Kurt Schwarz (80) and Khiry Gathers (66).

Chiefs Roll Again
10/
22/06

You might think that after learning they were ranked # 3 in the Pop Warner D2 Eastern Conference the Chiefs would have a letdown. If so you would be wrong, instead Coach Butts' high powered team stayed focused and turned it up a notch versus Valley Cottage.

Kemet McClean (31) opened the Chiefs scoring with a 55 yard touchdown run off tackle on the first drive, while also adding the extra point. After playing tough defense, led by "2" Edney (2) the Chiefs offense drove down the field with strong runs by McClean(31) and Ryan Landrine(21) that led to a Ezra Ward(4) 25 yard end around touchdown run, with McClean(31) adding the extra point. Blocking by Brandeis Minyard(91), Julius Dubose(75), Siqueira Lucas(28), and Alex Fearon(34) cleared the way. In the second quarter Nahji Williams (7) scored from around right end for a 19 yard touchdown, with Jordan Frenza (1) adding the extra point run.

The Chief defense got into the act with thanks to a hit by Keith Davis (57) which led to a mid-air fumble that Siqueira Lucas (28) returned 45 yards to the opponent 21 yard line. Speedster Jordan Lucas (17) then sprinted around right end for the touchdown, with Edney (2) adding the extra point. The Chiefs scored once more in the third quarter on a Lucas (17) 30 yard touchdown.

At this point the Chiefs led 35-0. In all respects this was the ending score as Pop Warner rules dictate that additional touchdowns or scores not be kept or recorded once a team is ahead by this large of a margin. Congratulations to the New Rochelle Jr. Midgets.  It is the first year in the RCPWF league and they have been declared Champions at the Junior Midget level.

Chiefs Grind Out 13-7 Win; Prepare for Playoffs
10/29/06

On Sunday 10/29/06 the undefeated Jr. Midget Chiefs played at home against a Bergen County team that they had beaten 25-0 earlier in the season. The BC Broncos looked to upset the Chiefs before they head to the Pop Warner Regional Playoffs next week, but the Chiefs responded with a tough grind it out 13-7 win. After watching some of the Chiefs other stable of running backs gain yards in recent weeks, Martin Cullen(22) added his name to the list by dashing 55 yards in the first quarter to open the Chiefs scoring. Emmanuel Vinson added the extra point with a diving catch in the end zone. In the second quarter quarterback Nahji Williams(7) hit a streaking Vinson(9) for a 45 touchdown pass. Bergen County was able to score a touchdown and close the Chief lead but strong defense by Lewis Edney(2), Williams (7) and Connor Schwarz(88) helped the Chiefs remain unbeaten entering the playoffs.

This is a big week for the Chiefs as they prepare for the playoffs. This is a "win or go home" tournament that leads to the National Championships in Florida. Because the Chiefs have accepted to go to Regionals they will not be eligible to go to North Carolina for the Thanksgiving Bowl Game.

Chiefs Battle in Playoffs; Upset 14-0
11/4/06

They said it couldn't be done. The question was if the NRYTL Chiefs belonged upstate with the "big boys". This is the sentiment of many in western New York State concerning Rockland and Westchester football.

In the first round of the Pop Warner Junior Midget Regional playoff game the Chiefs played a disciplined Ballston-Spa team from Saratoga New York in a hard fought game. In a game of evenly matched teams the victor is usually the team that makes the least mistakes, and takes advantage of opportunities. This was the case in this game.

After opening the game with a kickoff return the Chiefs steadily marched downfield with strong runs by Jordan Frenza(1), Nahji Williams(7) and Jordan Lucas(17). The first opportunity for the Chiefs came on 3rd down when Williams threw a pass to Frenza that barely slipped through his hands. The Chiefs were undaunted and although they did not score on this drive they played tough defense, and continued to drive the ball on offense for the remainder of the half. It was late in the first quarter when the Ballston-Spa team was able to break a long touchdown for the first score of the game. The extra point was kicked and both teams battled to halftime with the Chiefs behind 8-0. Despite the touchdown, this was a hard hitting game with good defense by Chief defenders Emmanuel Vinson(9), Kemet Mclean(31) and 2 Edney(2).

The third quarter was more of the same as both teams traded fourth down punts and battled for field position. A key play was a Chief 4th down punt from deep in their territory that went over the head of the punter. This gave Ballston-Spa the ball in excellent position for a score. The Chief defense clamped down and held them on downs inside of the ten yard line. However, this was a key play because for the remainder of the third quarter the Chiefs were playing on the "short-side" of the field (below their own 50 yard line). Early in the fourth quarter, after another Chief punt, the Boston offense broke a 20 yard gain to the Chief 5 yard line that led to the final 14-0 score. For the remainder of the game the Chiefs moved the ball in an attempt to comeback but turnovers and losses on offense stopped potentail drives.

Coach Butts, his staff and the Chiefs players may have left upstate without a victory but did leave with the respect of their opponents and observers of this game. This final game should not over-ride a spectacular 8-0 regular season for the Chiefs.
